We tested the Singapore Airlines Business Class on board of the A350-900 on our flight from Munich to the Lion City and found it simply: shiok!!
The A350-900 uses 30 percent less fuel than the 777-200ER and has reduced its noise footprint by 50 percent thanks to modern propulsion technology, lightweight materials and aerodynamic design. The modern air purification system completely exchanges the cabin air every two to three minutes.
Cabin air pressure equivalent to that at 1,800 meters above sea level (instead of the usual 2,800 meters), together with higher air humidity, improves well-being by a much more better cabin air quality. The cabin air is mixed of fresh air from outside, and recirculated air, which has passed filters, which are able to remove particles in the air down to the size of microscopic bacteria and viruses.
Since there is no First Class on board the A350, business passengers travel right at the front. There is plenty of free head space due to the lack of a baggage rack in the center of the cabin.
First Impression
The 42 seats in Singapore Airlines Business Class offer free access to the aisle for all passengers. Spacing: 1.50 meters. Seat width: 72 centimeters – even the first-class seats on the Emirates A380 offer 14 centimeters less! Plenty of storage oppurtunities for laptops, cell phones, charging cables and glasses.
When you feel like a nap, the backrest folds forward and the back of the seat becomes the mattress of a 1.98 meter long bed with headboard, comforter and pillow. The high shell of the seat, which is pulled quite far forward, guarantees good privacy.
Onboard Dining. Is it tasty?
If you have special culinary preferences (Indian or Japanese, for example) or follow a special diet, you can reserve your desired menu as a passenger in Singapore Airlines Business Class under Book the Cook. But the regular menu will also make you happy, with a range from pike-perch in Riesling cream sauce to braised beef in Thai-om curry.
The excellent selection of wines, such as Riesling from Hüls or a 2015 Heirloom Shiraz, provides the necessary bedtime energy. Those who have to work instead keep awake with some of Illy’s Arabica espresso …
What about the Onboard Entertainment?
Huge range of movies, series, music and games – more than 1,000 individual titles in total. The 18-inch HD screen is not a touchscreen, you control everything via the touchscreen handheld.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Summary
The cabin, food and service are excellent. For good reason, Singapore Airlines was named “World’s Best Airline” by Skytrax in 2018, ahead of Qatar Airways and ANA. You may get to Asia (somewhat!) cheaper in business class on a Gulf carrier, but certainly not as comfortably and as quickly (in 11.5 to 12 hours) as with Singapore Airlines.
Ticket Prices
Flights in Singapore Airlines Business to Singapore are available from 2,966 euros, in Premium Economy from 1,099 euros. More on singaporeairlines.com
